Sandra Stocks from the Kirkheaton History Group writes:-

My original intention was to copy the photographs of all the men who died in the Great War, but found there were many other photographs which would be of interest to family historians so decided to copy all photographs that I found. I may have missed some, so if there isn’t a picture of your family member here it doesn’t mean there isn’t one to be found in the archives.
I have not only copied photographs from the Huddersfield Weekly Examiner but have searched the newspapers available on findmypast.co.uk and made a note of the dates on which photos appear. These can be accessed with a subscription to findmypast.co.uk or by visiting the Huddersfield Local History Library and viewing the scanned copies of the newspapers.
When a photograph appeared in the newspaper, often there would be an article in the same paper giving more biographical details. It may be possible for me to find this information for you if you’re not able to visit the Local History Library yourself. Please email me at
If you register then logon to this site, there will be another menu off this one - WW1 Photographs of Servicemen Downloads - which contains downloadable files of the spreadsheet, photographs.
